Mahindra Group Launches New Tractor ‘Mahindra OJA’ in South Africa
The Mahindra Group has officially launched its highly anticipated tractor, ‘Mahindra OJA’, during an event in Cape Town, South Africa. Mahindra Tractors is currently the world’s largest tractor producer in terms of quantity. The new tractors are being launched on three OJA platforms, namely subcompact, compact, and small utility platforms.
Introduction of 7 New Tractor Models in the Indian Market
Mahindra has introduced seven new tractor models for the Indian market on the compact and small utility platforms. The word ‘OJA’ is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Ojas’, meaning ‘powerhouse of energy’. This new tractor range is Mahindra’s most ambitious global light tractor platform, developed with an investment of Rs 1200 crore and in collaboration with engineering teams from Mahindra Research Valley, Mahindra AFS Research and Development Center, and Mitsubishi Agricultural Machinery.
Key highlights of the new OJA tractor range:
- Available in 27 Horse Power and 40 Horse Power variants
- Starting price of Rs 5.64 lakh for the 27 Horse Power variant
- Starting price of Rs 7.35 lakh for the 40 Horse Power variant (ex-showroom)

Expansion Plans and Benefits for Farmers
The OJA range will initially be introduced in the Indian market and later expanded to North America, ASEAN, Brazil, Australia, South Africa, Europe, and the SAARC region. Hemant Sikka, President of the Farm Equipment Sector at Mahindra & Mahindra, stated that the new OJA range of light tractors is a powerhouse of energy that aims to benefit progressive farmers. With this technology, Mahindra aims to address 25% of the global tractor industry and explore new markets in Europe and ASEAN.
