LIC Eases Claim Settlement Rules for Victims of Odisha Train Accident
In the aftermath of the devastating train accident in Odisha that claimed hundreds of lives and left over a thousand people injured, the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has taken a big step to provide immediate assistance to the victims and their families. LIC has simplified the claim settlement rules for the victims of this accident and set up a special call center to expedite the process.
LIC Chairman Siddharth Mohanty issued a statement expressing deep sadness over the tragic incident and committing to help those affected. Several concessions have also been announced to ease the difficulties of the claimants of LIC policy and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. The Corporation has set up an exclusive help desk and a call center number at the circle and branch level to answer claim related queries and provide assistance to the claimants.
In lieu of the registered death certificate, the list of casualties published by the railways, police, or any state or central authority will be accepted as proof of death. LIC has assured that all efforts will be made to ensure that the claimants are reached and the claims of the affected families are settled expeditiously.
Railway Ministry and PMO Provide Financial Assistance
The Ministry of Railways will provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased and assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the seriously injured. PM Narendra Modi has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the Odisha train accident victims and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The PMO has provided this information through a tweet.
In addition to these measures, LIC’s move to ease the claim settlement rules and set up a special call center and help desk will provide much-needed relief to the affected families.
