Dussehra 2023: Kangana Ranaut to Burn Ravan Effigy at Red Fort Ground
Actor Kangana Ranaut is set to become the first woman to burn the Ravan effigy at the Lav Kush Ramlila Red Fort ground in Delhi on October 24. The announcement was made by Ranaut on her official Instagram handle. This will be the first time in the 50-year history of the event that a woman will set the effigy of Ravana on fire. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena will also be present at the event.
Support for Women’s Reservation Bill
The decision to have Kangana Ranaut burn the Ravan effigy was taken by the Lav Kush Ramleela Committee in support of the Women’s Reservation Bill, which was passed by Parliament in September. In addition to the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnath, this year the committee will also burn effigies of anti-Sanatan forces in Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Invited
Usually, the Prime Minister of the country performs the Ravan Dahan ritual. However, this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is busy with elections, so the Lav Kush Ramlila Committee has decided to invite him. Delhi is hosting three grand Ramlilas organized by different committees, and these festivities have been taking place at Madhav Das Park and 15th August Park in front of the Red Fort since October 15.
