Jewar Airport Flights Set to Begin on April 17
Flights from Jewar Airport are proposed to start on April 17. The second phase of the airport’s development is also progressing, focusing on the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub and runway, which will cover 1,365 hectares.
Current Construction Progress
The terminal building of Noida International Airport is 78 percent complete. The floor has been laid, and essential equipment for escalators and baggage handling has been installed. Overall, about 89 percent of the necessary infrastructure, including the taxiway, road, and other facilities connecting the terminal to the runway, has been completed. Once the terminal is ready, 10 aerobridges will be constructed.
Inspection and Reports
Recently, the Director of the Civil Aviation Department inspected the airport’s construction. According to the latest report, the terminal building’s development and airside operations are progressing rapidly. The physical progress of roads, parking areas, and public transport links stands at 78.7 percent, while 88.9 percent of the runway, taxiway, apron, and navigation systems have been completed. The first phase of the airport has reached 90 percent financial completion.
Financial Overview
Out of the total sanctioned budget of ₹10,056 crore, ₹9,024 crore has been utilized so far. This includes ₹4,326 crore from the Uttar Pradesh government for land acquisition of 1,334 hectares and ₹5,730 crore for project development by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited.
MRO Hub and Future Plans
As flights are set to start on April 17, the second phase of the airport development, including the MRO hub, is also making headway. Tender documents are being prepared to advance this process.
Air Traffic Control and Monitoring
The construction of the air traffic control tower has been completed. Following the finalization of its glass work, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has begun monitoring the air traffic management system. The executive team has applied for the aerodrome license, which is expected to be granted by March.
Access and Connectivity
Construction of an eight-lane interchange connecting the Yamuna Expressway to the airport has been completed. The final stages of the road linking the airport entrance to the terminal building are underway. A 31 km long road will connect the airport to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway at Ballabhgarh, enhancing accessibility to the airport.
Overall, significant progress has been made in the first phase of the airport’s development, with 90 percent of the budget utilized effectively.
