Aditya-L1 Mission Update
According to ISRO Chief S Somnath, the Aditya-L1 spacecraft is performing well and is on track to reach Lagrange Point 1 (L1) by mid-January. The spacecraft will then be inserted into a halo orbit around the Lagrange Point, which is a significant milestone in the mission.
Maiden Solar Mission
Aditya-L1 is India’s first solar mission, launched by ISRO on September 2 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. The mission aims to study the sun’s outer atmosphere and will carry seven different payloads for this purpose.
Distance and Orbit
Aditya-L1 will be placed in a halo orbit around Lagrangian Point 1 (L1), which is 1.5 million km away from Earth in the direction of the sun. The spacecraft is expected to cover this distance in four months. Aditya-L1 will stay approximately 1.5 million km away from Earth, directed towards the Sun.
Gaganyan Mission
ISRO Chief S Somnath also provided an update on the Gaganyan mission. The Test Vehicle-D1 mission is scheduled for October 21 and will demonstrate the crew escape system in the transonic condition. The Gaganyan mission aims to demonstrate India’s human spaceflight capability by launching a crew of three members to an orbit of 400 km for a three-day mission.
Upcoming Launches
ISRO has a busy launch schedule ahead. After the Test Vehicle-D1 mission, there will be launches of GSLV, SSLV, and PSLV rockets. The Gaganyan unmanned mission is also planned before January, making a total of 4-5 launches in the coming months.
