Indian Railways Cancels and Reroutes Trains After Accident in Odisha

Indian Railways has canceled 123 trains and rerouted 56 others due to a train accident in Odisha. Additionally, 10 trains have been stopped before their destination, and the times of 14 trains have been changed by the Railways. The affected trains include those starting from June 3 through June 7, such as Sealdah-Puri Duronto, Howrah-Chennai Mail, and Kanyakumari-Howrah Express.

Changes in Train Routes and Stops

Trains whose routes have been changed include Tambaram-New Tinsukhia Express, New Delhi-Puri Express, Purushottam Express, and Superfast Express from Digha to Visakhapatnam. Trains which have been stopped before the destination include Falaknuma Express, Baghajatin Express, Balasore-Bhubaneshwar Express, and Jaleshwar-Puri MEMU. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that normal train services are likely to be restored by Wednesday.

Special Trains Running

According to Vaishnav, the up and down lines have been repaired to restore train service after 51 hours. Passenger rail services are likely to start by Tuesday or Wednesday. Special trains are being run from Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ranchi, and Kolkata to accommodate passengers affected by the cancellations and route changes.

Over 1,500 Passengers Stranded in Bengaluru

Over 1,500 passengers, including workers, were stranded at Baiyappanahalli railway station in Bengaluru due to cancellations resulting from the Odisha train accident. The Labor Department and the Bangalore Municipal Corporation provided food, water, and mobile toilets for the stranded passengers. The government departments also provided food and water on the instructions of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for passengers whose trains to Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, and other eastern states were canceled.
