The Uttar Pradesh government is taking significant steps to ensure safer and more comfortable travel on four major expressways: Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, and Gorakhpur Link Expressway. This initiative is spearheaded by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), which aims to assess and enhance the riding quality of these highways.
Innovative Testing Measures
A specialized vehicle equipped with cutting-edge technology, including aero-sense technology and AI sensor modules, has been developed to test the riding quality. The vehicle is designed to:
- Measure Impact and Bounce: Sensors will detect jolts and vibrations at varying speeds on the expressways.
- Identify Areas for Improvement: Any shortcomings in the road quality will be identified for rectification during maintenance.
Testing Process
- Pilot Test on Ganga Expressway:
Testing will begin on the under-construction Ganga Expressway using the sensor-equipped vehicle. Before deployment, the vehicle underwent rigorous trials at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.
- Swiss Collaboration:
UPEIDA has partnered with Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, and RTDT Lab AG for this initiative. This collaboration stems from an MoU signed during the World Economic Forum’s January 2024 meeting, ensuring world-class standards in infrastructure assessment.
