He1I Ev Hyundai Hyundai New Ev Car In Low Budget Confirmed Coming. Company Announced Tata Punch Electric Alternative.

Hyundai Motor India is preparing to expand its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio in the country with the launch of a new A+ segment electric micro-SUV, expected to be priced from ₹10 lakh (ex-showroom). This upcoming model will directly compete with the Tata Punch EV, which currently dominates this segment.

Timeline and Development

  • Initially expected to debut in the second half of 2026, the launch has now been postponed to 2027.

  • The delay is attributed to sluggish global demand for EVs.

  • Codenamed ‘HE1i EV’, this model will be Hyundai’s first locally developed EV designed specifically for Indian driving conditions and local supply chain integration.

Design Inspiration and Features

The upcoming HE1i EV will take inspiration from the Hyundai Casper EV, known as Hyundai Inster in Europe, but will feature a unique India-centric design.

Expected design elements:

  • Pixel-inspired LED lighting setup

  • Rear door handles integrated into the C-pillar

  • Functional roof rails for added utility

Interior highlights (expected):

  • Fully digital customizable instrument cluster

  • Ventilated front seats

  • Wireless smartphone charger

  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

  • Large touchscreen infotainment system

  • Practical cabin layout optimized for Indian buyers

Performance and Battery

Hyundai plans to equip the HE1i with locally manufactured LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries, produced in collaboration with Exide Energy.

Battery and range details:

  • Battery capacity: 35-40 kWh

  • Expected range: 400+ km on a full charge

This setup aims to balance affordability, performance, and long-term durability, making it ideal for Indian road and weather conditions.

Market Positioning and Competition

  • The Hyundai HE1i will sit below the Creta EV in Hyundai’s lineup, targeting budget-conscious buyers looking for an entry-level EV.

  • It will compete directly with:

    • Tata Punch EV (current segment leader)

    • Upcoming Kia Syros EV, expected to launch in early 2026

Global Hyundai EV Strategy

Between 2021 and 2024, Hyundai launched several premium EVs like the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Ioniq 9 globally.

  • In China, Hyundai is preparing to launch models like the Alexio and an Elantra-based EV sedan.

  • In Europe, the company plans to introduce the Ioniq 3 next year.

  • In India, Hyundai launched the Creta EV earlier this year, but it received a mixed response due to pricing and competition.
