HRTC Waives Fares for Farmers
The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has made a significant move by waiving bus fares for the transportation of milk and vegetables. This decision was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, who emphasized the importance of supporting local farmers. Removal of Unwanted Advertisements
In addition to the fare waiver, Deputy Chief Minister Agnihotri instructed officials to remove advertisements for gutkha and liquor from HRTC buses. He expressed that although these contracts were established before his administration took charge, they do not align with the government’s focus on public welfare. By taking this step, the HRTC aims to promote a healthier environment for passengers and avoid endorsing products that may be harmful to the community.
Modernization and Expansion of HRTC Fleet
Agnihotri also discussed the ongoing modernization of the HRTC fleet, highlighting that 148 bus routes have been handed over to private companies for better service. He announced plans to replace 1,000 vehicles by the end of the year, which will help improve the overall transportation system. Furthermore, the Deputy Chief Minister revealed that the procurement process for 327 new electric buses is nearing completion, alongside the addition of 100 mini buses and tempo travelers. These efforts reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing public transport while also addressing environmental concerns.
