**Bombay High Court allows Sameer Wankhede to amend petition in bribery case**

– The Bombay High Court has granted permission to IRS officer Sameer Wankhede, who has been named as an accused in an extortion and bribery case related to the Cordelia cruise drugs case, to amend his petition.
– Wankhede’s lawyers sought permission to add additional grounds pertaining to sections 7, 7A, and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, which state that the giver of the alleged bribe should also be prosecuted.
– The high court extended interim protection to Wankhede until July 20 and posted the plea for further hearing on that day.
– Wankhede, former Mumbai zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and four other accused are alleged to have demanded a bribe of Rs 25 crore from actor Shah Rukh Khan to prevent the framing of his son Aryan Khan in a drugs case.
– Aryan Khan and several others were arrested in October 2021 for alleged possession, consumption, and trafficking of drugs.
– The NCB filed its chargesheet without naming Aryan Khan as an accused due to a lack of evidence, and he was subsequently granted bail by the high court.
– The CBI is expected to respond to the amended plea by July 20.

**Analysis**

The Bombay High Court’s decision to allow Sameer Wankhede to amend his petition in the bribery case adds a new dimension to the ongoing legal proceedings. Wankhede’s request to include additional grounds pertaining to the Prevention of Corruption Act indicates his intention to hold the giver of the alleged bribe accountable as well.

This development highlights the complexity of the case, which involves high-profile individuals and allegations of corruption within law enforcement agencies. The court’s decision to extend interim protection to Wankhede until July 20 indicates that it recognizes the need for a thorough examination of the allegations before any further action is taken.

The case has garnered significant media attention since the arrest of Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, in October 2021. The NCB’s decision not to name Aryan Khan as an accused in its chargesheet due to a lack of evidence has raised questions about the credibility of the investigation.

Overall, the Bombay High Court’s decision to allow Sameer Wankhede to amend his petition adds another layer of complexity to an already high-profile case. The court’s ruling indicates that it is committed to ensuring a fair and impartial investigation into the allegations of bribery and corruption. The CBI’s response to the amended plea will be crucial in determining the next steps in the legal proceedings.
