Traffic Relief on Ballabhgarh-Sohna Road
The long-standing traffic jam on Ballabhgarh-Sohna Road in Faridabad, Haryana, is set to ease soon. A proposal for a 10 km elevated flyover has been submitted to the government for approval. Following a survey expected to be completed in the next few days, construction will begin. An advisory agency will be appointed to create the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
Impact on Commuters
The Gurugram Public Works Department (PWD) will oversee the construction of this flyover, which aims to relieve congestion for around 50,000 drivers. Over the past few years, the area has seen the development of 12 new colonies and residential zones along the Ballabhgarh-Sohna Road. Additionally, the number of industrial units has risen sharply, leading to increased vehicle traffic. Commuters often experience severe delays, with journeys that should take five minutes sometimes taking half an hour, especially during peak morning and evening hours.
Flyover Specifications
The elevated flyover will be constructed above the existing 30-meter wide road, using pillars and girders to allow for uninterrupted traffic flow. This means drivers will not have to stop at red lights, potentially saving time and reducing pollution levels.
Service Roads
To support the flyover, 19-meter wide service roads will be built on both sides. These service roads will include barriers to prevent encroachment, similar to those seen on the DND-KMP Expressway. This design aims to ensure that vehicles can reach their destinations without delays, further alleviating traffic issues.
Next Steps
Charanjit Rana, Executive Engineer of the Gurugram PWD, stated that an advisory agency will be appointed soon to prepare the DPR based on the survey results. The necessary tenders will also be issued once the proposal is approved by the government.
