Haryana Declares February 5 As Paid Holiday For Employees To Facilitate Voting In Delhi Assembly Elections; Markets To Remain Closed.

Haryana Declares Holiday on February 5

The Haryana government has announced a holiday on February 5 for all public offices, educational institutions, boards, and corporations. This decision is made in light of the Assembly elections taking place in Delhi on the same day.

Purpose of the Holiday

The main aim of this holiday is to allow state government employees who are registered voters in Delhi to cast their votes. According to the official statement, this holiday is in line with specific provisions of the Convisions of Tribesy Act, 1881, and the Representation of the People Act, 1951. These laws ensure that employees who are voters in the National Capital Region can conveniently participate in the elections.

Leave for Private Sector Employees

Additionally, employees working in factories, shops, and private establishments in Haryana, who are also registered voters in Delhi, will have the right to this holiday. This means they will be able to take time off to vote without any issues.

Polling Day in Delhi

Voting for Delhi’s 70-member assembly will take place on February 5, with results expected to be announced on February 8.

Markets in Delhi

On polling day, all markets in Delhi will remain closed. The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has stated that if any shop or factory does open, employees must be given the day off and should not face any pay cuts. The CTI has confirmed that all 700 markets in the national capital will observe this closure on February 5.

Compliance with Election Orders

CTI President Brijesh Goyal emphasized that traders need to follow the orders issued by the Election Commission and the Labor Department. He noted that while shops in retail areas may open in the evening after voting, it is crucial that employees receive their entitled holidays if any business operates during the polling hours.
