Gurugram Authority Plans To Install 10,000 Cctv Cameras For Enhanced Surveillance Across Millennium City.

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is Taking Steps to Enhance Security

The GMDA has begun preparations to enhance surveillance in Millennium City, Gurugram. Starting next month, a survey will be conducted to install 10,000 CCTV cameras on the main roads, along with around 2,000 cameras at various intersections and Tirahe points.

An advisory company will carry out this survey, and GMDA’s Smart City Branch is expected to issue an appointment letter to the company within the next 15 to 20 days. The selected company will create a survey report outlining proposed locations for the CCTV cameras and will also prepare the necessary tender documents. The entire survey is anticipated to be completed within six months after the tender is allocated.

Meeting Highlights and Approval

On July 10, a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini approved the plan to install 10,000 CCTV cameras at an estimated cost of ₹422 crore. This initiative aims to invite tenders from advisory companies for conducting the survey and preparing the tender documents.

Control Rooms at Police Stations

These CCTV cameras will be connected to 40 police stations across the city, where control rooms will be set up. Personnel in these control rooms will monitor the main roads using the CCTV footage. The estimated cost for building these control rooms is about ₹1 crore. Additionally, connecting approximately 400 government buildings to the CCTV network will require around ₹10 crore.

Benefits of CCTV Installation

The installation of these cameras will significantly aid in preventing and addressing criminal activities. They will help identify, apprehend, and prosecute criminals, providing key evidence for both criminal and civil cases. This move is expected to enhance law and order, facilitate the management of large events, and assist the police in maintaining traffic discipline.

Plans for Further Installation

In a second phase, GMDA plans to install 2,722 CCTV cameras at 258 Chowk intersections. This phase will cover areas including Sohna, Badshahpur, Pataudi, Farrukhnagar, and others, as well as around the Ghamdauz toll plaza. The tender for this phase will be presented for approval at a meeting led by the Chief Minister.

PK Aggarwal, an advisor in the Smart City Branch of GMDA, mentioned that there are plans to invest ₹422 crore to install 10,000 CCTV cameras in the third phase as well. An advisory company will be appointed next month to prepare the survey and tender documents for this initiative.
