Inflation is rising in Karnataka. After the hike in Bengaluru Metro fares, milk prices are also expected to go up. The government is considering increasing milk prices by up to ₹5 per liter, which will add an extra financial burden on the public.
Milk Prices to Rise Soon
Karnataka’s Animal Husbandry Minister K. Venkatesh stated in the Legislative Council that due to growing demands from dairy farmers, milk prices may soon be increased. The government is trying to balance the interests of both farmers and consumers before implementing the new rates.
- Nandini milk prices may rise from ₹44 per liter to ₹47 per liter.
- The final decision will be made after discussions with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Reasons for the Price Hike
- Last year in June, Karnataka increased milk prices by ₹2 per liter.
- In July 2023, the government approved a ₹3 per liter hike.
- With rising costs for dairy farmers, another price increase has now become necessary.
Impact on Other Products
- Dairy products like ghee, butter, paneer, and ice cream may also become more expensive.
- The Bengaluru Hotel Association has indicated that filter coffee prices may also rise.
- Currently, a cup of filter coffee costs ₹12-₹15, but it may increase to ₹15-₹20 due to the rising cost of coffee powder.
If the government raises milk prices, it will have a cascading effect on other food products. Inflation in Karnataka is showing no signs of easing anytime soon
