In a significant development, the Delhi Government’s One Delhi mobile app now allows users to purchase Delhi Metro tickets. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has integrated its ticketing services with the One Delhi app, facilitating a more streamlined and convenient ticketing experience for metro commuters.
Ticketing Made Easy with QR Codes
The tickets purchased through the One Delhi app will be in the form of QR codes. Commuters can scan these QR codes at the entry and exit gates of metro stations using their mobile phones. This integration is a relief for those who travel by both bus and metro, as it promotes multimodal integration and allows better planning of journeys.
Inauguration of the New Service
This new service was jointly inaugurated on Friday by Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, and Delhi’s Transport Commissioner Ashish Kundra. The event was also attended by Pravesh Biyani, Head of the Center for Mobility at IIIT Delhi, among other officials.
Anuj Dayal, Executive Director of DMRC, informed that the integration of DMRC’s ticketing services with the One Delhi app was done in collaboration with IIIT Delhi, which manages the One Delhi app for the Delhi Government. Approximately 1.5 lakh people already use the One Delhi app to generate QR code tickets for bus travel.
Benefits for Commuters
Apart from ticket purchasing, the app will enable users to plan integrated trips involving both buses and metro in a more efficient way. Users will simply need to enter their starting and ending points in the app, which will then suggest the best bus or metro route to reach their destination.
