Kia has unveiled an aggressive strategy for the global electric vehicle (EV) segment, encompassing a dedicated lineup from EV1 to EV9. Among these, models like EV6 and EV9 are already on sale, and now, Kia has launched the EV5 in China.

EV5: Kia’s First Global Strategic Model in China 🇨🇳

The EV5 marks Kia’s foray into the Chinese market with its first global strategic model, setting the stage for Kia’s expanding EV portfolio.

Expanding the EV Portfolio 📈

Kia aims to sell 1 million electric cars annually by 2026, with EV5 playing a crucial role in achieving this target. By the end of this decade, this number is expected to reach 1.6 million units per year. The EV5, priced affordably, is anticipated to see substantial sales and will soon be available in other markets. It’s presented as a family-centric SUV, boasting a perfect blend of performance, range, and high-tech features.

Kia EV5 Specifications 🔍

The EV5 is based on the e-GMP platform, a dedicated EV framework shared with Hyundai models. In China, the EV5 features a 64.2 kWh battery pack connected to a 160-kW electric motor. This battery pack, equipped with LFP chemical and manufactured by BYD in China, offers a certified range of 530 km.

The long-range variant of the EV5 includes an 88-kWh battery pack, providing a range of up to 720 km. Both models are equipped with a similar 160 kW electric motor. The pricing for the long-range model hasn’t been disclosed yet. Earlier this year, Kia announced a long-range AWD model, but it’s unclear if this variant will be available in China.
