In a recent announcement, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal unveiled the Solar Policy 2024, a pioneering initiative aimed at making Delhi self-reliant in electricity and offering economic benefits to its residents.

Key Highlights of Delhi Solar Policy 2024

  1. Zero Electricity Bills: The policy encourages households to install solar panels, ensuring that those consuming over 201 units of electricity will have zero electricity bills.
  2. Four-Year Payback: Individuals investing in solar panels can expect a return on investment within four years.
  3. Focus on Awareness: Despite the success of the 2016 Solar Energy Policy, public awareness remains limited. The new policy seeks to increase awareness and adoption of solar energy.
  4. Mandatory Solar Panels on Government Buildings: All government buildings with an area of 500 square meters will be required to install solar panels within the next three years.
  5. Subsidies and Incentives: The Delhi government will provide a subsidy of Rs. 10,000 for solar panel installation. Additionally, incentives will be offered for setting up systems of 300 kilowatts.

Potential Impact

This policy marks a significant shift towards sustainable energy, potentially reducing the reliance on traditional power sources. It aligns with the global movement towards green energy, positioning Delhi as a leading city in environmental responsibility.

The Solar Policy 2024 by the Delhi government is not just an environmental initiative but also a financially beneficial scheme for its residents. It reflects the government’s commitment to reducing carbon footprints and encouraging the use of renewable energy sources, setting a precedent for other states and regions to follow
