Patna Metro Link Forget Patna Metro. Bihta Coming With Danapur Metro Link Via Shivala Chowk Stopage.

In a transformative push toward modern urban infrastructure, the long-awaited Patna Metro Rail Project is now on track to commence operations by August 2025, heralding a new chapter in the mobility landscape of Bihar. Envisioned to decongest Patna’s traffic-heavy corridors and foster sustainable growth, the project aims to knit together the capital city and its expanding suburban frontier, Bihta, through a cohesive network of mass transit, roads, and airport infrastructure.

Two High-Impact Corridors to Form the Backbone of Metro Operations, Covering Critical Government, Commercial, and Educational Zones

The Patna Metro will initially consist of two main corridors covering a total of over 41 km:

  1. Danapur–Mithapur Corridor (26.94 km):
This route will serve densely populated and institution-heavy areas such as Raza Bazar, Patna Secretariat, the High Court, and Law University Railway Station, making it a vital artery for daily commuters and professionals.

  2. Patna Junction–New ISBT Corridor (14.45 km):
Linking the city’s heart with its transport hubs, this line will pass through Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Patna University, Rajendra Nagar, Mahatma Gandhi Setu, Transport Nagar, and ISBT — ensuring comprehensive coverage of central and eastern Patna.

The metro project, with an estimated cost of ₹13,365.77 crore, is scheduled for full-scale completion within five years, with partial operations beginning next year.

Bihta Airport and Metro Extension: Paving the Way for Patna’s Western Growth Axis

Strategically located about 35 km west of Patna, Bihta is fast becoming a major hub for infrastructure and logistics. The under-construction Bihta Airport, poised to handle 3,000 passengers at a time, adds a new dimension to regional air connectivity. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has sanctioned a ₹459.99 crore contract for the terminal building, with work set to begin in June 2025 and finish by April 2027.

In anticipation of this growth, the Patna Metro is expected to extend toward Bihta in upcoming phases. This future link will not only provide a fast and reliable connection between the airport and the city but will also stimulate real estate, commerce, and employment in peri-urban areas.

Danapur–Bihta Elevated Road: The Longest in Eastern India to Complement Rail and Air Links

Augmenting this regional connectivity plan is the Danapur–Bihta Elevated Road, a 21-km four-lane expressway expected to be the longest elevated road in Eastern India upon completion. This key corridor will directly link Danapur Railway Station and Shivala Chowk to the proposed Bihta Civil Enclave, which will share facilities with the Indian Air Force base.

The project features a 600-meter vehicular tunnel, enabling direct access to airport infrastructure. As of February 2025, construction milestones such as pillar works and girder launching are underway, with a targeted completion date of September 2026.

Bihta Dry Port: Bihar’s First Inland Port to Anchor Export-Import Trade for Eastern India

In a parallel move to bolster Bihar’s economic logistics chain, the Bihta Dry Port was inaugurated on October 21, 2024. Operated by Pristine Magadh Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. under a public-private partnership, the dry port offers customs clearance and multimodal connectivity for cargo heading to India’s coastal seaports.
