Ford India is set to enrich the Indian automotive market with the launch of its new SUV, named “Territory,” expected to debut next year in 2025. This move marks a significant comeback for Ford in India, with the “Territory” poised to compete directly with popular models like the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari.

The Launch of the Ford Territory

The Ford Territory, already on sale in markets like China, Mexico, South Africa, and Vietnam, will bring Ford’s global expertise to the Indian SUV segment. In China, the SUV is known as the Territory, whereas it goes by the Equator Sport in other regions.

For the Indian market, Ford has decided to stick with the Territory name, emphasizing its tailored approach to meet local preferences and conditions.

Exterior Design

The Ford Territory is designed to combine robustness with elegance. It will feature:

  • C-Shape LED DRLs: Integrated with a stylish honeycomb grille for a modern front fascia.
  • Split Headlamp Design: Main LED headlights positioned on the bumper, enhancing visibility and aesthetic appeal.
  • Pronounced Wheel Arches and Large Alloy Wheels: Contributing to a bold side profile, the SUV measures approximately 4600mm in length and has a wheelbase of around 2700mm, positioning it below the larger Endeavor (Everest).

Interior Sophistication

Internationally, the Territory is known for its refined interior, which includes:

  • Twin 12.3-inch LCDs: Serving both as an instrument gauge cluster and an infotainment system.
  • Luxurious Appointments: Full leather trim for seats and steering wheel, a 10-way adjustable driver’s seat, and a 4-way adjustable front passenger seat.
  • Advanced Features: Twin-panel panoramic moonroof, multi-color LED ambient lighting, and an 8-speaker audio system.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

The Territory is equipped with an impressive suite of ADAS features, including:

  • Blind Spot Information System (BLIS)
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Forward Collision Warning with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Keep Assist

These features, which enhance both safety and driving ease, are expected to be included in the Indian version to appeal to safety-conscious consumers.

Powertrain and Performance

The Territory might feature a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, capable of delivering about 185 bhp and 318 Nm of torque. This engine will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, providing power to the front wheels.

Additionally, the vehicle will offer several driving modes including Normal, Eco, Sport, and Mountain, allowing for a versatile driving experience.

Broader Strategy for India

Ford India’s broader strategy includes reintroducing the Endeavour as the Everest, reflecting its international branding.

The company has also secured the trademark for a new compact SUV aimed at competing with models like the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara, and it is developing an affordable electric vehicle platform projected for launch in 2026.
