HDFC Bank Extends Fixed Deposit Scheme for Senior Citizens

HDFC Bank has extended its fixed deposit scheme exclusively for senior citizens. The Senior Citizen Care FD scheme, which offers high interest rate benefits, was launched in May 2020. The last date to invest in this scheme has been extended till July 7, 2023.

Additional Interest for Senior Citizen Investors

Under the Senior Citizen Care FD scheme, senior citizen investors are offered an additional 0.25 percent interest rate, in addition to the current 0.50 premium paid to senior investors on FD accounts. This means that investors in the Senior Citizen Care FD programme receive an overall 0.75% more interest than regular clients.

Interest Rates and Details

The Senior Citizen fixed deposit interest rate on tenure between 5 Years 1 day to 10 Years is 7.75%. HDFC Bank offers an interest rate between 3.5% to 7.75% on tenures ranging from 7 days to 10 years. The table above shows the detailed interest rates offered by the bank on different tenor buckets.

Premature Closure of Fixed Deposit

In case of premature closure of fixed deposit booked under the Senior Citizen Care FD scheme on or before 5 years, the interest rate will be 1.00% and post 5 years, the interest rate will be 1.25% below the contracted rate or the base rate applicable for the period the deposit has remained with the bank, whichever is lower.
