US Visa Applicants Urged to Schedule Interviews

The US Embassy in India has issued a reminder message to all individuals applying for US visas. The embassy noted that even if the full application fee has been paid, it will expire if the interview is not scheduled within the stipulated period. Visa applications are valid for exactly one year from the date of payment to schedule an appointment. However, certain extensions were granted during the COVID-19 pandemic, which are set to expire by the end of this month. Visa applicants who paid their fee before October 1, 2022, must schedule an interview or submit an interview waiver application before September 30, 2023. Failure to do so may result in having to pay the fee again.

US Visa Wait Time Reduced

The United States has experienced a significant reduction in visa wait times after facing long delays since the start of the pandemic, with some delays lasting up to three years. The US Embassy in Mumbai reported that it is currently processing visas with no wait time. In the past month, the embassy processed over 900,000 non-immigrant visas and expects to surpass one million soon. Efforts to streamline the visa process include Prime Minister Modi’s announcement in June allowing H-1B visa holders to renew without leaving the country, as well as plans to open new consulates in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad.
