In a welcome move for salaried employees across India, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the deadline for linking Universal Account Number (UAN) with Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. The new deadline is now set for June 30, 2025. This extension comes as a relief for those who have yet to complete this crucial process.
Essential for Accessing Government’s ELI Scheme Benefits
The extension holds special significance for employees looking to benefit from the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme, launched as part of the Union Budget 2024. Under this scheme, eligible employees are offered financial support, but linking UAN with Aadhaar-based bank accounts is mandatory to qualify.
What Is UAN and Why Is It Important?
UAN is a 12-digit unique number issued by EPFO to salaried individuals, allowing seamless access to their Provident Fund (PF) information across job changes. Once activated, users can check their PF balance, download passbooks, submit withdrawal or transfer claims, and update personal details – all through the EPFO Member Portal.
How to Activate Your UAN
Activating UAN is a simple online process:
-
Visit the EPFO Member Portal
-
Click on ‘Activate UAN’
-
Enter required details: UAN, Aadhaar, date of birth, and mobile number
-
Verify via OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number
-
Once verified, a password will be sent via SMS for login
Don’t Miss Out on ELI Scheme
The ELI scheme has three categories – A, B, and C – each offering various incentives. However, UAN activation and Aadhaar-linked bank account are compulsory across all categories. Without these, employees risk missing out on substantial financial benefits offered by the government.
