NPS Funds Being Sought Back from Central Government by Many States

Many states and central employees are demanding the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme. The funds deposited in the New Pension Scheme (NPS) are being sought back from the central government on behalf of the governments of the states where the old pension has been implemented. However, the central government is refusing to return the money.

Old Pension Scheme Implemented in Himachal Pradesh

The Old Pension Scheme has been implemented for government employees in Himachal Pradesh from April 1, 2023. Lakhs of employees and pensioners of the state are getting its benefits.

CM of Himachal Pradesh to Meet Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

Himachal CM Sukhwinder Sukhu has appealed to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the return of Rs 9242.60 crore deposited by the state government in the NPS. Sukhu mentioned the upcoming visit of the Finance Minister to Delhi to discuss the matter. He expressed his commitment to get the NPS money back and assured employees that the board-corporation employees would be given the benefit of the old pension scheme.

Attempt to Withdraw NPS Money

Sukhu stated that it is the right of the state to get the NPS money back. He said that he would fight for it and go to Delhi to discuss the matter with the Finance Minister. He also mentioned that the corporations previously excluded from the scheme would be included in due course.
