Delhi-Dehradun Green Expressway Update

A section of the Delhi-Dehradun Green Expressway is set to open on February 14, right after the Delhi election results. This new route stretches from Khekra to Akshardham and is expected to significantly ease travel to Delhi for residents of Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, and Baghpat districts. After a long wait, about 32 kilometers of this expressway will finally be accessible for vehicles.

Inauguration Details

The Prime Minister’s Office has prepared a drone video of the route, and officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) indicate that everything is ready for the inauguration. Once the election code of conduct is lifted, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the route. The NHAI has assured that the barriers will be removed in just half an hour once the inauguration is announced.

Travel Time Improvement

This new route will allow travelers to reach Delhi from Khekra in just twenty minutes. On Monday, NHAI officials conducted a test drive on the newly constructed route, confirming its readiness.

Project Investment

The construction of this elevated route has cost around ₹1323 crores. It features a six-lane service road and spans up to 18 kilometers. The elevated road connects Akshardham to Khekra and is part of a larger project costing ₹12,000 crores that will link Delhi to Dehradun through several districts including Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur.

Impact on Baghpat

With the opening of this elevated route, the Baghpat district will have a direct connection to Delhi, reducing travel time and eliminating traffic jams. This development is expected to boost real estate in the area, leading to more residential colonies and industrial growth, along with improved educational and healthcare facilities.
