Connection of Poor Electricity Consumers in UP Will Be Reconnected for Rs 100
In a significant move, the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has waived off the 1 KW domestic power connection and disconnection charges until July 31, 2023, for the convenience of power consumers from weaker sections. This decision will provide great relief to poor electricity consumers who can now get reconnected by depositing a minimum of Rs 100 from their dues. Additionally, the requirement of depositing the minimum limit of partial payment of 25 percent of the total dues has also been abolished.
Details of the Decision
According to M Devraj, the President of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation, presently, connections of domestic consumers under LMV 1 category are disconnected due to pending connection. After depositing full or partial dues on behalf of the consumer, an additional amount of about Rs.600 has to be deposited as RCDC connection (disconnection and connection) charges. The bill amount from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 is partially deposited by the poor consumers.
This situation makes it impossible for poor consumers to deposit Rs 600 as RCDC fee, leading to a delay in the reconnection of their electrical connection. If the connection has been disconnected due to non-payment of dues, then not less than 25 percent amount is partially accepted by the consumer.
The state government has decided to waive the RCDC fee while giving relief to all the poor consumers and put an end to the system of depositing 25 percent of the total arrears by July 31, 2023, for connecting disconnected connections of domestic consumers with up to 1 kW power load. This move will provide significant relief to the electricity defaulters of this section.
