Chief Minister Manohar Lal recently inaugurated the Electric City Bus service in Panchkula and Karnal, marking a significant stride towards sustainable urban transport. On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced that the Electric City Bus service would be free for the first seven days as a goodwill gesture to the residents.
Key Highlights of the New Electric Bus Service:
- Initial Rollout: Initially, five electric buses have been introduced in both Panchkula and Karnal. Plans are underway to expand this fleet shortly.
- Fare Structure: The fare for the electric buses has been set at Rs 10 for the first 5 kilometers, with an incremental Rs 5 for every subsequent 3 kilometers.
- Expansion Plans: The route for the city bus service will be determined considering the public demand and necessity, with an aim to extend the service methodically to towns adjoining the cities.
- Fleet Enhancement: The state has already procured a total of 375 buses, enhancing the public transportation infrastructure significantly.
- Previous Initiatives: This initiative follows the successful launch of similar services in Panipat and Yamunanagar, showcasing the state’s commitment to improving public transport.
- Future Prospects: The Chief Minister, in his budget address for 2023-2024, announced the launch of city bus services in 9 municipal corporations and Rewari city. The roadways fleet has expanded from 3083 to 4651, with an additional 562 buses running under the kilometer scheme. Plans are in place to introduce electric city bus services soon in Ambala, Sonipat, Rewari, Rohtak, and Hisar.
