Electric vehicle demand continues to rise in the country as both new and established players are exploring the segment. Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions (a partner brand of Kinetic Group) is set to launch the first model called “E-Luna.” Sulajja Firodia Motwani, the CEO of Kinetic Green, confirmed the news on social media and shared that the company has already started production of the chassis and other components. The company intends to manufacture 5,000 units per month initially, which is expected to increase with time. The electric Luna will be built in a separate assembly line in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar.

The iconic Kinetic Luna was first introduced in 1972, and it quickly became popular as the country’s first moped with a 50cc engine. In the following years, it was presented in various versions under different names such as TFR, Double Plus, Wings, Magnum, and Super. Kinetic Engineering updated it several times until the end of production in the early 2000s. The original Luna was a licensed version of the Piaggio Ciao moped from Italy.

The company has not disclosed any details about the new electric Luna, but Sulajja Firodia Motwani posted a vintage video of Luna and a picture of her father, Arun Firodia, who created the original Luna, on Twitter. She also mentioned that it is time to “blast from the past” and teased the followers with “something revolutionary and exciting.” She finally revealed that the new electric Luna would be called “E-Luna.”

Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions is not the only one to offer an electric version of its iconic scooter. Bajaj Auto introduced its popular scooter Chetak in an electric avatar with the original nameplate, and LML is also preparing to launch its Star scooter in an electric variant this year. Electric mobility is gradually gaining momentum in India, and the government has announced several incentives and subsidies to promote the adoption of EVs.
