Delhi’s Budget Focus on Health, Security, and Transport
The recent budget presented for Delhi aims to improve health services, enhance security, and boost travel facilities in the region. Central hospitals in Delhi have received an additional allocation of ₹884 crore compared to last year. Moreover, a significant amount of around ₹3,000 crore has been allocated to Namo India for better transportation in the National Capital Region (NCR). The budget for the Delhi Police has also seen a provision of ₹12,259 crore.
Increased Funding for Healthcare
The Union Finance Minister has announced an increase in the health budget for Delhi. This year, ₹9,821 crore has been allocated to five central government hospitals in the capital, up from ₹8,937 crore last year. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has received the highest allocation of ₹5,200 crore.
Boosting Transportation in NCR
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has been allocated ₹2,918 crore in this budget. This funding will support the ongoing Namo India project connecting Delhi and Meerut and will facilitate the progress of the next route.
Security Enhancements
For security, ₹11,931 crore has been earmarked for the Delhi Police. Additionally, the NCR Planning Board will receive ₹55 crore, which is ₹10 crore more than the previous year. The Delhi government has also been granted ₹951 crore in central assistance, with provisions of ₹15 crore for disaster management and ₹2 crore for compensation related to the 1984 Sikh riots.
Improvements in Public Transport
The budget places a strong emphasis on enhancing the public transport system. The allocation for NCRTC will expedite the construction of the corridor between Meerut and Sarai Kale Khan. Furthermore, work on the six corridors of Metro Phase-4, spanning 104 km, will gain momentum, supported by additional provisions in the budget. Plans to improve facilities, such as electric buses and e-charging stations in Delhi, have also been included.
