BJP Government Plans Cruise Service on Yamuna River
The government in Delhi is set to launch an exciting cruise service on the Yamuna River, specifically between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. This initiative aims to boost tourism and promote the revival of the Yamuna.
Officials revealed that a stretch of six kilometers of the river will be developed for cruise operations, starting from the Wazirabad Barrage at Sonia Vihar and ending at Jagatpur, near Shani Mandir.
To kick off the project, the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) has issued a request for quotation (RFQ) to operate two solar or electric battery-powered cruise boats on this designated section of the river. This plan highlights the importance of sustainable and eco-friendly transport options, supported by various organizations including the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and others.
The DTTDC will select an operator to run the cruise service, which will cover a total distance of 7 to 8 kilometers. The initiative will involve collaboration with the IWAI and DDA, while the Delhi Jal Board will assist in ensuring proper water management. The Irrigation and Flood Control Department will help by providing the necessary infrastructure, such as floating jetties and charging stations for the cruises.
The operator chosen for this venture will initially offer two hybrid electric cruises, each accommodating 20 to 30 passengers. These cruises are expected to travel at a speed of 5 to 7 nautical miles, which translates to about 10 to 12 kilometers per hour. Additionally, the cruises will be equipped with inboard bio-toilets to ensure zero waste discharge, an announcement system, and life jackets for safety. The plan also includes a minimum of four cruise trips daily to provide ample opportunities for tourists to enjoy the ride.
