East Delhi residents are set to benefit from a new flyover, which aims to significantly reduce traffic congestion. Here’s a detailed look at the project:
1. Flyover Overview
- Location: The flyover spans 1.5 kilometers, connecting Apsara Border and Anand Vihar.
- Inauguration: The Public Works Department (PWD) is preparing for the official opening, with expectations that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will inaugurate it later this month.
2. Traffic Management and Environmental Plans
- Environmental Measures: To maintain local greenery, the trees situated along the flyover’s path will remain intact. Barricades will be strategically placed around these trees to manage traffic flow.
- Approval Status: PWD sought permission from the Forest Department for tree removal but has not yet received approval.
3. Benefits to Commuters
- Reduced Traffic Jams: The flyover will alleviate congestion in areas like Ramprastha Colony, Vivek Vihar, and Shrestha Vihar, making daily commutes smoother.
- Increased Capacity: The flyover is expected to handle around 148,000 vehicles daily once the Rapid Metro station, built by NCRTC, becomes operational.
4. Future Infrastructure Projects
- Punjabi Bagh Flyover Expansion: Next month, additional traffic relief is expected as the existing one-way flyovers at Punjabi Bagh are being expanded from single lanes to three lanes each. New three-lane flyovers are also under construction.
- Double-Decker Flyover: By December, Delhi will introduce its first double-decker flyover. Spanning 1.4 kilometers between Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura, this innovative structure will feature a metro line on the upper deck and a vehicle road on the lower deck, improving traffic conditions further.
