Delhi experienced early morning rainfall and lightning on Friday, December 27, 2024, intensifying the cold wave in the national capital and its surrounding areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, hailstorms, and moderate rainfall across northwestern and central India on December 27 and 28, attributing these conditions to an active western disturbance.

As of 7:23 AM, the temperature in Delhi was 13°C, accompanied by cold winds. The IMD predicts heavy rain and strong winds for December 27 and 28, with potential temperature fluctuations and dense fog. The maximum temperature on Friday is expected to reach 20°C, with a minimum of 12°C. Overcast skies are anticipated to persist for the next two days, with intensified fog expected post-rainfall.

Despite the showers, Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) remains in the ‘very poor’ category, with an AQI of 371 recorded at 7 AM. Notable AQI levels across the city include Anand Vihar at 398, IGI Airport (T3) at 340, and ITO at 380.

The Central Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) revoked Stage IV (‘Severe+’) measures of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on December 24, following an improvement in air quality. However, measures under Stages I, II, and III remain in place to prevent further deterioration.
