Among the most prominent measures under GRAP 4 restrictions is the ban on entry of trucks into Delhi, with an exception for vehicles carrying essential goods. Additionally, commercial vehicles running on clean fuels like LNG, CNG, BS-VI diesel or electric power are exempted from the ban.

Meanwhile, non-essential light commercial vehicles registered outside Delhi, except those running on CNG, electric power and BS-VI diesel, are also banned. Under GRAP 4, medium and light commercial vehicles registered in Delhi are restricted except those carrying essential goods running on diesel or BS-IV.

While there are no new restrictions on private vehicles, CAQM has already implemented a few restrictions under GRAP 3. Private car owners who still drive a BS-III petrol car or a BS-IV diesel car, will be out of city limits on these days. The Delhi Traffic Police will strictly enforce the GRAP Phase III guidelines and crack down on any vehicles violating the restrictions.

The restrictions will be followed not only in Delhi but also in nearby areas like Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar. Those who violate the rules will be fined 20,000 BS-IV petrol and BS-VI diesel certification and all other private vehicles above will be allowed to ply in the city without any restrictions during this period.

Delhi Pollution: What is the ban on private vehicles?

Vehicle owners in the capital region are now under intense scrutiny as authorities step up efforts to combat a sharp rise in pollution levels in the city. They should carry a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate before taking out their vehicles. If not, they risk heavy fines. The Delhi Traffic Police has taken strict action against non-compliant vehicles by issuing over 2.70 lakh challans to rule violators by October 31 this year.

Driving without a valid PUC certificate is a serious offense and can attract up to 10,000 fine. The move is part of larger measures to reduce vehicle emissions, a significant contributor to Delhi’s poor air quality. Vehicle owners should regularly check and renew their PUC certificates to avoid fines.
