Delhi Police Returns Cheated Amount to American Victims for the First Time in History

Now, the Delhi Police is set to make history again by returning the cheated amount to four American victims. The four accused who cheated American citizens have deposited the recovered 96 lakhs in the court. Prashant Gautam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, IFSO, Special Cell of Delhi Police, said that the police is returning the duped amount to the victims. This marks the first time in the history of the country that the Delhi Police is returning the money to foreign victims.

What Happened?

The Delhi Police arrested four accused who were cheating American citizens by running a call center in Uttam Nagar. The accused were identified as Janakpuri resident Gagan Lamba, his younger brother Jatin Lamba, Rohini resident Harshad Madan, and Faridabad, Haryana resident Vikas Gupta. They were arrested in December 2022. The Delhi Police contacted the FBI after a large number of US citizens were duped. Through the FBI, the Delhi Police traced the four victims to American citizens. The FBI thoroughly interrogated these victims and informed the Delhi Police. Inspector Awadhesh’s investigation bore fruit, and the four accused confessed to duping four American citizens. These accused deposited the cheated amount of Rs 96 lakh after the order of the Patiala court.

Tracking the Legal Process

IFSO Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Gautam told the media that there is no process as of now for returning cheated amounts to foreign nationals. These victims have not appeared in an Indian court. The FBI has given complete information about the accused. Talks are ongoing with Interpol and the government regarding this.

The cheated amount will be returned to the following American citizens:

  • Robert Bambra, defrauded of US$299
  • Gyu Wan Cho, amount 199 US dollars
  • Jacqueline Wilmore, US$80,000
  • Bette Nussbaum NY, amount 3999.99 US$
