Delhi-NCR is set to witness a significant improvement in connectivity, thanks to new expressways, highways, and metro projects. The focus is on enhancing rail networks to facilitate both passenger and freight movement, particularly between key industrial areas like Manesar, Palwal, and Kharkhoda in Haryana.
Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor: A Game-Changer
Construction is in full swing for the ambitious Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC). This 126-kilometer long railway line promises to transform cities like Manesar.
The project, costing approximately ₹5700 crore, will run parallel to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway. Once completed, it will link regions such as Nuh, Sohna, Manesar, and Kharkhoda with a robust railway network.
Key Route and Beneficiaries
The Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor will stretch from Palwal Railway Station to Harsana Kalan Railway Station in Sonipat, benefiting districts like Palwal, Gurugram, Nuh, Jhajjar, and Sonipat. Construction began near the Farrukhnagar Toll Plaza on the Sohna-Rewari Road (NH919).
Additionally, there’s ongoing work to connect the Maruti-Suzuki plant in Manesar to the Delhi-Rewari section. A 4.88-kilometer long tunnel is also under construction as part of the corridor.
Freight Capabilities and Infrastructure
The Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor will enable the daily transportation of up to 5 crore tonnes of goods via freight trains. Trains will operate at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour.
The tunnel being constructed will accommodate double-stack containers, with a height of 11 meters. The project involves acquiring 665.92 hectares (about 1665 acres) of land across 67 villages in Sonipat, Jhajjar, Gurugram, and Palwal districts.
Route and Connectivity
The HORC will connect Palwal to Sonipat via Sohna, Manesar, and Kharkhoda. This broad-gauge double railway line will link with the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) at Pirthla Station.
It will also provide connectivity to other railway lines at Palwal, Patli, Sultanpur, Asauda, and Harsana Kalan stations.
The rail corridor will offer direct connectivity for Sonipat and Kharkhoda IMT to Gurugram, Manesar, Sohna, Faridabad, and Palwal, eliminating the need for trains to pass through Delhi.
