Gurugram’s Urban and Rural Planning Department has finalized the framework for the establishment of the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) to operate metro services in Old Gurugram. This initiative marks a significant step forward in enhancing public transportation within the city.
Key Features of the GMRL:
- Initial Capital: The company will be launched with a starting capital of 20 crore rupees, with equal shares held by the Central and State Governments, demonstrating a collaborative effort to improve urban mobility.
- Route and Stations: According to the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the metro route will extend 28.50 kilometers, featuring 27 stations. This extensive network aims to connect key areas of Gurugram efficiently.
- Starting Point: The new metro service will commence from the Millennium City Center Metro Station and will integrate with Cyber City, facilitating convenient access for commuters working in and around this major IT and business hub.
The formation of GMRL and the introduction of a new metro route in Gurugram reflect the city’s commitment to developing sustainable and efficient public transport solutions.
By connecting Old Gurugram with newer commercial districts like Cyber City, the metro service is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and promote the use of public transport among the residents and workforce of Gurugram.
