The Delhi Metro management has ramped up efforts to construct two new corridors under Metro Phase 4: Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block (Golden Line) and Indraprastha to Inderlok (Green Line Extension).

Within three months of approval, the alignment work for both corridors has been completed. This means the routes have been surveyed and mapped out, identifying where permissions are needed. The management aims to begin construction by the end of this year.

Quick Progress Post-Approval

Delhi Metro Managing Director Vikas Kumar shared that two out of the remaining three corridors of Phase 4 were approved in March 2024. Since then, work has progressed rapidly.

The final touches are being put on issuing tenders and preparing contract documents. Discussions are ongoing with the lending company to secure funding.

Interchange Stations Every Other Stop

According to Delhi Metro, the two new corridors, spanning 20.76 kilometers, will feature eight new interchange stations. Notably, the Indraprastha-Inderlok corridor will be the first to offer an interchange facility at every other station.

This 12-kilometer corridor will have ten stations, five of which will be interchanges, connecting with the existing Blue, Pink, Magenta, Yellow, and Red lines.

Boost in Connectivity

These new corridors will significantly enhance connectivity, linking areas currently 3-4 kilometers away from the metro network.

They will connect important commercial and administrative locations such as Delhi Secretariat, IGI Stadium, LNJP Hospital, Sarai Rohilla Railway Station, and Greater Kailash-1. Additionally, densely populated areas like Nabi Karim, Ballimaran, and Ajmal Khan Park in Old Delhi will benefit from the extended metro reach.

Five out of Six Corridors Approved

Phase 4 of the Delhi Metro includes a total of six proposed corridors. Construction is already underway for three corridors—Janakpuri West to RK Ashram, Tughlakabad to Aerocity, and Maujpur to Majlis Park—with a target completion date of March 2026.

Two more corridors—Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block and Indraprastha to Inderlok—received approval in March 2024. The Narela-Bawana corridor is still pending approval due to its planned extension to Kundli in Haryana.
