Important News for Delhi Residents
If you live in Delhi, there is some crucial news regarding pollution levels in the capital. The air quality has worsened, leading to the imposition of Grade-3 stage restrictions that started on 29 January 2025.
Follow the Restrictions
It is essential to strictly follow the new restrictions. Ignoring even minor rules can result in significant penalties, with fines reaching up to Rs 20,000. The pollution levels in the National Capital Region (NCR) have again crossed acceptable limits, with many cities experiencing very poor air quality.
What is Grap?
The Graded Response Action Plan (Grap) is an emergency measure designed to tackle increasing pollution levels in Delhi-NCR. When the Air Quality Index (AQI) falls into the very poor or severe category, strict rules kick in under Grap Stage-3.
Penalties for Rule Violations
Under Grap Stage-3, BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel vehicles are banned from the roads, affecting all four-wheelers. However, this rule does not apply to differently-abled individuals. Additionally, non-essential diesel-powered medium goods vehicles are also banned. If someone is found violating these rules, they could be issued a challan, facing fines of up to Rs 20,000. It’s important to note that vehicles used for essential services, government work, and those belonging to differently-abled individuals are exempt from these restrictions.
Restrictions on Vehicle Entry
Apart from that, inter-state buses, electric vehicles (EVs), and CNG or BS-VI compliant diesel vehicles from NCR states are not allowed to enter Delhi. However, buses and tempo travelers that have an All India Tourist Permit are excluded from this ban.
Other Measures in Delhi
In response to the pollution crisis, non-essential construction work in Delhi has been halted. Schools have been directed to operate in hybrid mode for children up to fifth grade. Parents and children are also given the flexibility to continue their studies online if that is a feasible option.
