Delhi High Court issues notice to Newsclick and its editor on ED’s plea

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice in the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) plea seeking directions to vacate the court’s 2021 interim orders asking ED not to take “any coercive action” against PPK NewsClick Studio Private Limited, which owns the newsportal NewsClick, and its founder & editor-in-chief Prabir Purkayastha, in connection with a money laundering case. ED contended that it is a case of criminal conspiracy of paid news where crores of rupees were received. ED sought an earlier date for hearing of this application. The matter is listed on September 6.

Ban on tobacco products extended for another year

Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has extended the ban on tobacco products such as gutkha and paan masala in the capital for another year. The move prohibits the manufacture, storage, distribution and sale of tobacco – whether flavoured, scented or mixed with any addictive – and going by the name or form of gutkha, paan masala, flavoured or scented tobacco or kharra.

Delhi HC grants bail to YSRCP MP’s son in excise policy case

The Delhi High Court has granted bail to Raghav Magunta, son of YSR Congress Party MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, in the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) money-laundering probe into the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. A single-judge bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma said in its August 10 order, “In view of the statement made and the facts narrated herein above, the interim bail granted vide order dated 18.07.2023 for four weeks on medical grounds is made absolute.
