Delhi’s New Plan: Bus Routes to Change During Waterlogging
In response to frequent waterlogging during the monsoon season, Delhi has come up with a new plan to prevent buses from getting stuck in flooded underpasses and bridges. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has devised alternative routes for over 55 bus routes to ensure smooth commuting even during heavy rains.
DTC’s Strategy for Key Underpasses and Bridges
Minto Bridge and Connaught Circle:
- Affected Routes: 20 bus routes
- Alternative Path: Buses usually passing under Minto Road Bridge towards Deendayal Upadhyay Marg will be redirected via Super Bazaar, Barakhamba Road, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Flyover, and Ramleela Ground.
Vivekanand Nagar to Minto Bridge Circle:
- Affected Routes: Buses traveling from Vivekanand Nagar via Minto Bridge Circle and Deendayal Upadhyay Marg.
- Alternative Path: These buses will now take Kamla Market, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Maharana Ranjit Singh Flyover.
Route Changes for Prahladpur Underpass
Prahladpur:
- Affected Routes: 13 bus routes
- Alternative Path: Buses from Ambedkar Nagar, Sangam Vihar, and Maa Anandamayi Marg towards Badarpur Border will be rerouted via MB Road, Maa Anandamayi Marg, Kalkaji Depot, Kalkaji Temple, Modi Mill Flyover, and Govindpuri Metro Station.
Adjustments for Zakhira Underpass
Zakhira:
- Affected Routes: 10 bus routes
- Alternative Path: Buses heading towards Zakhira Underpass from Moti Nagar and Karmapura will be redirected through Zakhira, Rohtak Road, Punjabi Bagh, Britannia Chowk, Lawrence Road, Keshavpuram, Maharaja Nahar Singh Marg, and Inderlok Metro Station.
The new routes will be implemented as soon as waterlogging begins and regular routes will resume once the water is cleared.
