The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is set to make its monuments more visitor-friendly by leveraging internet media to simplify ticket booking and enhance the understanding of the monuments’ significance and history. The aim is to eliminate the complexities of ticket booking and make the process easier for visitors.

Key Enhancements and Visitor Experience

  • User-Friendly App: The ASI app will be upgraded to be more user-friendly, providing better access to information and services related to the monuments.
  • Internet Facilities: Improved internet facilities will be provided at the monuments to enhance the visitor experience.

  • Comfort During Extreme Weather: Measures will be taken to ensure that visitors do not feel uncomfortable during extreme heat or cold, allowing them to enjoy and appreciate the historical significance of the sites.
  • Battery Cars: For monuments where visitors need to walk long distances, battery cars will be made available to facilitate easier movement.

Minister’s Initiative and Inspection

Following the directions of the newly appointed Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the ASI is working on this plan. On Saturday, Minister Shekhawat inspected several monuments in Delhi. His visit started at 8 AM with a tour of the Qutub Minar complex, where he learned about the history and significance of the monuments, including the famous Iron Pillar.

Inspection of Purana Qila

Minister Shekhawat also visited the Purana Qila, where he inspected excavation sites related to the search for Indraprastha, the capital of the Pandavas, which was excavated by former ASI Director-General Prof. B.B. Lal between 1954-55 and 1969-72. He also reviewed the excavation site near the Kunti Temple, which was carried out last year by ASI Director Vasant Swarnkar.

Advanced Facilities and Future Plans

The minister emphasized the need for state-of-the-art facilities for excavations. ASI Director-General Yadubir Singh Rawat provided details about ongoing projects, including the construction of a new museum to display heritage artifacts returned from abroad. The minister also inspected the existing museum at the site.
