Traveling from Delhi and Noida to Uttarakhand is set to become much simpler with the ongoing development of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. This expressway is expected to boost the number of tourists to Mussoorie due to a new elevated road planned for the region.
Key Developments on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway
- Mussoorie Bypass
- Following the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, a new bypass from Asharodi to Mussoorie will be constructed, enhancing direct connectivity to Mussoorie. The elevated road from Asharodi to Ganeshpur is almost complete, marking significant progress.
- Operational Changes
- Once the expressway is fully operational, older routes will be closed and handed over to the Forest Department for reforestation efforts, turning them into forest areas.
- Time Savings
- The new expressway will cut travel time between Delhi and Dehradun by about an hour. The Asharodi-Ganeshpur segment, which currently takes one hour, will soon take just 15 minutes.
- Bypass from Asharodi to Mussoorie
- Post expressway completion, work has commenced on a bypass from Asharodi to Mussoorie, with the first phase from Asharodi to Jhajra underway.
- Extended Highway to Mussoorie
- A 42-km highway from Jhajra to Mussoorie will be built in the second phase. This addition will ease traffic congestion on Dehradun’s roads, offering tourists direct access without entering the city.
Infrastructure and Tourist Benefits
- Four-Lane Road to Jhajra
- The first phase includes constructing a four-lane road from Asharodi to Jhajra, with plans to extend it further to Mussoorie.
- Developing New Areas
- Currently, only a single-lane road runs from Jhajra to Dunga. The new project involves land transfers to facilitate the expansion and ease tourist traffic toward Mussoorie.
- Avoiding City Traffic
- Tourists from Delhi, Chandigarh, and Himachal will no longer face city traffic jams, as they’ll be able to bypass Dehradun via the new highway.
- Direct Route to Mussoorie
- A new highway from Paonta to Jhajra is also in the works, allowing tourists from this route direct access to Mussoorie, bypassing city congestion.
- Future Projects
- Alongside the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, the government has initiated the Asharodi-Jhajra-Dunga-Mussoorie Bypass Highway. A ring road project for Dehradun will also soon commence to accommodate the increasing number of tourists.
