New Vehicle Registration Rules in Delhi
Recently, the Transport Department in Delhi announced that individuals with an Aadhar card, even if they live outside of Delhi, can now register their vehicles in the city. To complete the registration, applicants will need to provide two addresses: their permanent address and their current address. It’s important to note that the Registration Certificate (RC) will be sent only to the current address provided. However, buyers will also need to submit specific documents related to Delhi to finalize the registration process. A senior official mentioned that the new system is not yet integrated into the National Informatics Centre (NIC) system, so it may take a while before everything is fully operational.
Faceless Policy Implementation
The Delhi government has also rolled out a faceless policy aimed at streamlining the vehicle registration process. This policy includes changes that allow self-registered dealers to register non-corporate and non-transport category vehicles using Aadhar cards issued outside of Delhi. When an individual buys a vehicle from a self-registered dealer and has an Aadhar card with an address outside Delhi, the District Transport Officer’s approval will be necessary to proceed with registration. The move is designed to make the registration process more efficient, although it will now require both a permanent and a current address to be entered into the system.
Mandatory Documentation for Registration
To ensure compliance with the new rules, the registration certificate will reflect the current address and will be sent via speed post. Dealers will be responsible for verifying the authenticity of documents and data submitted for vehicle registration. For applicants whose Aadhar card addresses are outside Delhi, they must provide proof of their current address, which can include documents like a recent water bill, electricity bill, or even a marriage certificate. Furthermore, for corporate vehicles, providing a GST Identification Number and PAN number is mandatory. Dealers hold the responsibility for accurate data entry, and any discrepancies or issues arising from incorrect information will fall on them.
