UP CM Yogi Adityanath Asks Courts to Declare Arms-Free Zone
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed all court complexes in the state, including the High Court, to improve their security measures. He has asked for strict compliance with the orders not to enter court premises with weapons and has called for the declaration of subordinate courts as firearms free zones under Rule 46 of The Arms Rule 2016.
Principal Secretary Home Sanjay Prasad held a meeting with administrative and police officers to ensure that the Uttar Pradesh government’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) are followed to safeguard district courts from any untoward incidents. In total, 71 security in-charge inspectors and sub-inspectors, 22 inspectors and 240 sub-inspectors, 522 head constables, and 1772 constables are posted in district courts in Uttar Pradesh.
The Chief Minister has also instructed the installation of CCTVs in courts and the deployment of trained police personnel. He has asked for regular check-ups of lawyers, litigants, and commuters, and the maintenance of security equipment in court premises.
