The problem started on Sunday when a gas pipeline broke in Chembur. This led to the closing of over half of the CNG filling stations in the city, which has worsened the situation.

Mahanagar Gas expects to fix the problem by Tuesday afternoon, but daily commuters might have to deal with another day of chaos. Also, about 44% of BEST buses are running low on fuel, which will make traffic even worse.
While CNG options are limited, the city is providing support through over 1,273 electric buses, metro lines, and suburban rail services. Some cab drivers have switched to petrol and adjusted their fares accordingly. School bus operators have warned they may not be able to run buses if the supply isn’t restored soon.
