India aims to achieve 1% blending of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in jet fuel by 2025, requiring around 140 million liters of SAF annually, according to Union minister for petroleum and natural gas Hardeep Singh Puri. Speaking in New Delhi, Puri also set a more ambitious target of 5% SAF blend, requiring around 700 million liters of SAF per year. He hailed the recent successful demonstration of SAF blending in a commercial passenger flight as historic and reiterated India’s commitment to becoming energy self-reliant by 2047, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mandate.
