New Delhi to Implement National Common Mobility Card in Buses

New Delhi, the capital city of India, is set to implement the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) in buses by December. Currently, this card is already in use in the metro system, and the Delhi government aims to extend its usage to buses as well.

The Transport Department of the Delhi Government is making preparations for the implementation of the NCMC in buses, with the goal of launching the facility by the end of this year. Once implemented, passengers of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses will be able to conveniently pay their fares using the National Common Mobility Card. This will cover a total of 7135 buses operated by the Delhi Government.

Payment Made Easy Through ETM

The NCMC payment system will allow passengers to swipe their cards through the Electronic Ticketing Machine (ETM) provided to the bus conductor. The cards will be available for purchase at all metro stations, ISBT, and information centers of Delhi Tourism Corporation. The Transport Department has directed the installation of ETMs and chips in DTC and cluster buses to enable fare payment through the NCMC.

It is estimated that over 40 lakh (4 million) people travel in Delhi government buses every day, with approximately 35 percent of them being women. While women passengers receive free tickets, more than 25 lakh (2.5 million) people purchase tickets daily. The introduction of the National Common Mobility Card in buses will streamline the ticketing process, eliminating the need for separate tickets for metro and bus travel in the capital.

Expansion Plans

After the implementation of the NCMC in buses, the Delhi government plans to extend the usage of the card to other modes of public transport, including autos and taxis. This move aims to provide a seamless and convenient payment solution for commuters across various modes of transportation in the city.
