COVID-19 continues to claim lives in the National Capital Region as three deaths, including those of two infants and an 87-year-old man, were reported in Delhi and Noida due to the virus. Health authorities confirmed on Thursday that all three deceased had pre-existing health conditions, making them highly vulnerable to complications arising from the infection.
Infant and Elderly Among the Deceased
According to the health department, one of the deceased was a five-month-old child who was already battling cerebral palsy, pneumonia, and sepsis. The other infant, a three-month-old baby from Chhijarsi in Noida, had been undergoing treatment at Chacha Nehru Hospital in Delhi for pneumonia and dehydration, and tested positive for COVID-19 during the course of treatment.
The elderly victim, aged 87, suffered from multiple chronic conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and kidney complications, which made him particularly susceptible to the virus.
Sharp Rise in Active Cases in Delhi
In the past 24 hours, Delhi reported 184 new COVID-19 cases, raising the number of active infections in the capital to 562. This marks a concerning trend, especially with a rise in severe outcomes among high-risk groups such as children and senior citizens.
Health Authorities Urge Caution
The spike in cases and fatalities has prompted health officials to urge the public, especially those with underlying health conditions, to exercise caution. Preventive measures like mask usage, hand hygiene, and avoiding crowded places are being reinforced.
