Delhi Live News Updates (July 30): Two AAP Leaders Join BJP
Summary:
- Raj Kumar Ballan, chairman of the Ghazipur Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC), and Anil Jha, AAP Purvanchal wing vice president, have joined the BJP.
- A draft bill to replace the ordinance on transfers and postings of senior officers in the Delhi government is ready and will be introduced in Parliament next week.
- Delhi Police inspector Jagbir Singh died in a car accident on Rohtak Road.
- Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora has raised concerns about the security arrangements for the G20 Summit in September.
Amid the impending reorganisation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit, two leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including chairman of the Ghazipur APMC, joined the saffron party. Raj Kumar Ballan resigned from his post prior to taking the BJP’s membership. AAP Purvanchal wing vice president Anil Jha also joined the party. This will be Ballan’s second stint with the BJP after his decision to leave it for the AAP in 2021.
The draft bill to replace the ordinance which mandated the creation of an authority for transfers and postings of senior officers in the Delhi government is ready and has been circulated among the MPs before its introduction in Parliament next week. The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2023 will have identical provisions for the appointments and postings of the senior officers in the Delhi government like the ordinance promulgated on May 19. According to the bill, all transfer and postings of senior officers in the Delhi government will be done by a three-member committee headed by the Delhi chief minister.
In other news, a Delhi Police inspector died Sunday after his car was hit by a truck from behind on Rohtak Road. The accident happened near the Madipur metro station. According to Delhi Police, the car had stopped due to some mechanical problem and the deceased was standing outside when his car was hit by the truck. The deceased has been identified as Inspector Jagbir Singh of Delhi Police, presently posted in the Security Unit. “The truck driver left the truck and fled from the spot. Further investigation underway,” Delhi Police said.
A day after a security “trial run” for the G20 Summit in the Capital in September, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora has flagged key concerns and advised “invisible security” instead of “overwhelming” deployment, and “unified command” instead of “diffused responsibility”. Sources said Arora had questions about the security arrangements on Wednesday, and asked all officers present at the site to prepare an upgraded plan that was less intrusive. During the “trial run” on Wednesday, over 15,000 police personnel, along with SWAT commandos, and over 200 police vehicles armed with high-tech gadgets and weapons, were deployed for the inauguration of the new International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
