In a major boost to road infrastructure, Maharashtra is set to witness the complete opening of the Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, commonly known as the Samruddhi Expressway, today. The final leg of the expressway—from Igatpuri to Thane—will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis post 12 noon.
Cutting Travel Time from 16 Hours to Just 8
Designed for speeds of up to 150 km/h, but capped at 120 km/h for safety, the 701-kilometre-long expressway now connects Mumbai to Nagpur, slashing the travel time from 16 hours to merely 8. This development marks a major milestone in India’s expressway network and will significantly improve passenger and cargo movement across Maharashtra.
₹55,000 Crore Mega Project with State-of-the-Art Infrastructure
Built at a cost of around ₹55,000 crore, this six-lane expressway features 65 bridges, 24 interchanges, six tunnels, and over 400 vehicle underpasses. It is also equipped to handle emergency situations including the landing of Air Force jets, making it not just a road, but a strategic national asset.
High-Tech Security and Traffic Management
For enhanced safety, CCTV cameras have been installed at every 5 km. These surveillance systems will help monitor overspeeding, lane discipline, and will assist in issuing e-challans for violations—ensuring a smooth and secure driving experience.
Connecting Ten Key Districts and Major Cities
Traversing 10 districts, including Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Washim, Buldhana, Jalna, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nashik, Ahmednagar, and Thane, the expressway will also integrate important cities like Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Shirdi, Kopargaon, and Aurangabad, revolutionizing regional connectivity.
