Akshay Kumar Shares Memories of Humble Beginnings Before Stardom
Akshay Kumar, the renowned Bollywood actor and producer, recently opened up about his life before entering the film industry and shared fond memories of his humble beginnings. In an interview, he revealed that he grew up in a small house in Chandni Chowk, Delhi, with 24 family members. They would all sleep in the same room and would have to jump over each other in the morning to get out. When his family moved to Mumbai, they lived in a small house in Sion Koliwada, paying only Rs 100 as rent.
Living with Limited Means, but Full of Happiness
Akshay reminisced about those days and said that despite their limited means, they were always happy. They would enjoy simple meals such as dal chawal, jeera aloo, aloo gobhi, and bhindi. He emphasized that there wasn’t a single day when they didn’t smile or laugh. He also shared that his family had a ritual of going to the movies every Saturday. To save money for the movie ticket, they would skip the morning meal and instead treat themselves to a samosa and an ice cream during the movie.
Unexpectedly Deciding to Become an Actor
Akshay revealed an interesting anecdote from his childhood. He failed his seventh standard and his father came to scold him. When asked what he wanted to be, Akshay, who had no intention of becoming an actor at the time, spontaneously blurted out, “I want to be a hero.” He actually wanted to become a martial arts teacher but said the hero bit out of nowhere. This unexpected declaration eventually led him to pursue a career in acting.
Akshay Kumar’s latest film, Mission Raniganj, is currently showing in theaters. Despite his tremendous success, he holds onto his humble roots and cherishes the memories of his journey from a small house in Chandni Chowk to becoming one of Bollywood’s biggest stars.
